At that time Mary got ready and hurried to a town in the hill country of Judea, where she entered Zechariah’s home and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. In a loud voice she exclaimed: “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear! But why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy. Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her!” Luke 1:39-45
Let’s look at what happened when Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. First she blesses Mary and Jesus who is still in the womb. She acknowledges she is favored because Mary has come to visit with her. She tells how John the Baptist leaped for joy in her womb. Then she directs what is happening to a blessing applied then, today, and the future. “Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her.” This applied to Mary, it applied to Elizabeth, and it applies to us today.
The Word of God is Everlasting to Everlasting. Elizabeth and Zachariah desired a son. In verse 14, the angel Gabriel tells Zachariah that their son would be a joy to them and many and he would be filled with the Holy Spirit before he would prepare the people for the Lord. The Ministry of John the Baptist is in you and I today. We are also preparing the people for the Lord.
God has placed Holy Spirit on the inside of you. There is nothing small or short-term about God’s Personality, His Spirit, and His Character. He is from Everlasting to Everlasting. I want to encourage you to believe that whatever God is birthing through you has an Everlasting stamp on it. It will not be a blessing just for you and yours, but God promised Holy Spirit to ensure the blessing for all the families of the earth to be blessed through you and yours, today and from generation to generation!
