Hold On: God Keeps His Promise
Now behold, the Lord has let me live, just as He spoke, these forty-five years, from the time that the Lord spoke this word to Moses, when Israel walked in the wilderness; and now behold, I am eighty-five years old today. I am still as strong today as I was in the day Moses sent me; as my strength was then, so my strength is now, for war and for going out and coming in. – Joshua 14:10-11
When Moses sent out spies to recon the Promised Land, Joshua and Caleb were the only two out of twelve to return with a favorable report. Regardless of what they saw in the land, Joshua and Caleb trust in the Lord. The other ten spies were fearful based on what they observed. Due to Joshua and Caleb’s trust in the Lord, they were the only two Israelites from their generation to see the Promised Land.
Caleb was given a promise from the Lord about the land he would posses when he was 40 years old. After 45 years of traveling, battling and concurring, Caleb was 85 years old and still as strong as he was the day the promise spoken. Caleb was from the tribe of Judah, known for praising and being the Davidic line of succession to Jesus. According to the Word of God, Caleb wholly followed the Lord. I submit to you, wholly following the Lord for 45 years preserved his strength.
We live in a generation of instant gratification. From high-speed digital communications to fast food, we have adopted a mindset of “must have it right now.” This mindset has many believers looking for fast results when they are standing on a promise from God. With God’s promise comes His perfect timing. Everything God does fits into His perfect plan. When you keep your mind on Him, He will keep you in perfect peace. Your promise from God will come to pass in its due season. In that season, just as with Caleb, there will be nothing missing, noting lacking and nothing broken. Just as Caleb, wholly follow God.
Confession: Father, we love You and the peace You give to us. You keep us in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on You and in You we are safe and secure. We thank You for all Your promises. We confess Your Word, Jesus, and say what He says. We know Your Word does not return to You void and as many promises You have, in Jesus they are yes; therefore also through Jesus is our Amen to Your glory through us. We will not faint. We will not be weary in well-doing. We will stand on Your Word. In Jesus Name. Amen.
