“Lord Willing” or The Lord’s Will

Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that.” – James 4:15

In the letter/epistle written by James we receive instruction on practical duties of Christian life.  Topics range from Faith and Wisdom to Patience and Prayer.  In the fourth chapter verses 13-17, Brother James writes a beautiful instruction to assist believers.  There may have been some who have looked at this scripture and not fully understood the message and placed limits on themselves by placing limits on our limitless God.

James is telling us to change what we say by changing the source which feeds our thoughts.  In the beginning of the fourth chapter, James explains how the desire we have on the inside is what determines what we do. He explains that a person may ask and not receive because they ask with the wrong motive.  Motive is determined by ones ultimate desire.

James 4:13-17 says, “Come now, you who say, ‘Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, and spend a year there and engage in business and make a profit.’ Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away. Instead, you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and also do this or that.” But as it is, you boast in your arrogance; all such boasting is evil.

It would be foolish to seek after anything not in line with God’s will, which should the source of your life.  Some may have looked at this scripture and limited God.  Have you ever heard someone say, “oh if the Lord wills”, in an almost defeated tone?  Well, God’s response, “What does My Word say.”  With boldness, believers need to immerse themselves in God’s Word and fellowship with Him in prayer.  This will result in perfect motive.  From the position of perfect motive, one will be able to say, “we will live and also do this or that.”  The “this or that” is what God says.  What does His word say about being healed, whole, and blessed?

In the Name of Jesus, seek God’s Will to change your motive and then speak God’s Will to see results.

We love you in the Name of Yeshua Ha-Mashiach (Jesus Christ the Messiah the Anointed One)
