Power in His Name: Elohim
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. – Genesis 1:1
Power in His Name: Elohim
(The God Head Three in One)
Understanding the Name(s) of God is vitally important to a believer. In the Bible, as in many cultures around the world, names are associated with a person’s character, behavior and destiny. Many cultures have first, middle and last names, in order to associate a person to a family, carry on history and project the future. Throughout the Word many names are associated with God. Each name draws us, believers, closer to His character, behavior and destiny for us.
The first Name associated with God is Elohim. This Name is not a singular Name, this Name is plural. Elohim is used over 2,600 times in the Bible, from a KJV study, and is one of the three most common used names for God. El and Yahweh/Yehovah/Jehovah are the other most used names for God in the Word. Elohim being the first Name used, we see in the beginning “Gods”, plural, created the heavens and the earth. His Name is written in a singular sense, God, with a plural understanding, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. He is One God, monotheistic, in three persons.
From the first use of God’s Name, we can identify His character as a loving Father with a will/plan who created by the power of His Holy Spirit with His Words, Jesus. In the first three verses Elohim is revealed to us. “In the beginning God [Elohim] created the heavens and the earth [plan/will of the Father out of love for His children]. The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God [Holy Spirit] was hovering over the face of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light [Jesus].”
There are many scriptures where we see Elohim, which will broaden our understanding of Him. Here are two:
Then God [Elohim] said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all[a] the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” – Gen 1:26
What is man that You take thought of him, And the son of man that You care for him? Yet You have made him a little lower than God [Elohim], And You crown him with glory and majesty! – Psalm 8:4-5
Embrace who God is by understanding His name and unlock His character, behavior and destiny for you. Elohim is the All Powerful One Creator, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We love you in the name of Yeshua Ha’Mashiach (Jesus the Christ Messiah Anointed One).
